For the CDB Symposium 2016, we plan to discuss the question of organismal size control. The size of animals and plants varies greatly among species, and sometimes within species as well. Despite this variability, individuals maintain remarkably constant shapes through the poorly understood process of scaling, and deviations in shape control often lead to pathological conditions. Furthermore, allometric conversion of organ shapes is a major driver of evolutionary diversification. Recent advances in the study of growth control and morphogen functions, as well as quantitative approaches of tissue shape control have brought us a fresh opportunity to revisit these long-standing questions.

The program of the 2016 CDB Symposium will feature presentations covering a broad range of topics, including (1) Growth Control, (2) Organ Size and Shape, (3) Scaling and Morphogenesis, (4) Evolution of Allometry.

We encourage the submission of abstracts for the poster session from many scientists to increase opportunities for lively and informative exchange of views. A small number of poster abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. A limited number of travel fellowships for graduate students and post-docs traveling to Japan will also be available.

We look forward to seeing you in Kobe, Japan in March 2016.

We take integrative approaches toward deciphering human body homeostasis, diseases and longevity. We combine molecular/cellular biology and genomics approaches with informatics, machine learning, mathematics and computer sciences using both animal models (mouse and zebrafish) and clinical subjects/data. Using these inter-disciplinary methods and concepts, we aim to understand how human physiology works and how human disease onset, progression and also longevity is regulated. We also conduct multiple large-scale multi-feature (multi-omics, physiology, clinical) studies with both healthy and disease human subjects.
+
Our ultimate goal is to develop mathematical models capturing the human’s whole-body level comprehensive physiology and disease and aging processes in the computer.

Updated!! Systems Human Biology and Medicine, Several Postdoctoral Fellows and Senior Scientists Positions Available

The Thomas N. Sato BioMEC-X Laboratories, Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, Kyoto, JAPAN
Website:http://www.tnsl.atr.jp/en/index.html

We take integrative approaches toward deciphering human body homeostasis, diseases and longevity. We combine molecular/cellular biology and genomics approaches with informatics, machine learning, mathematics and computer sciences using both animal models (mouse and zebrafish) and clinical subjects/data. Using these inter-disciplinary methods and concepts, we aim to understand how human physiology works and how human disease onset, progression and also longevity is regulated. We also conduct multiple large-scale multi-feature (multi-omics, physiology, clinical) studies with both healthy and disease human subjects.
Our ultimate goal is to develop mathematical models capturing the human’s whole-body level comprehensive physiology and disease and aging processes in the computer.
We are looking for several self-motivated and interdisciplinary-minded scientists who are willing to take challenges to tackle ambitious projects by joining our international and inter-disciplinary team.

Preferred backgrounds and skills:
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in informatics, mathematics, data sciences, physics, computer sciences, biological sciences, medical sciences, or other related areas. (Some BS or MS levels are also considered for engineers or programmers positions that are also available in our lab)
